On Our Way Home

Jul 20
We left early to head on our long way home. Unfortunately, we seemed to pick the worst routes. Although we did have a very scenic climb on Hwy 50 up to 11312 feet at the summit of Monarch Mountain in Colorado, the next few hours were even slower. First we got stuck behind an oversized load vehicle transporting a log cabin for many miles on a very narrow and twisty stretch. Then Esther thought a more direct route east would be quicker than heading up north to catch I-70. Of course, there would have to be construction with a flag man and long, single lane traffic. All in all, we got an hour or two behind schedule which didn’t help anyone’s mood. After nearly 14 hours we finally pulled into a Walmart Supercenter parking lot in Junction City in eastern Kansas to spend the night.

Today is Ethan’s 9th birthday!

We left Junction City, KS at 7 in the morning prepared for another long day on the road. Late evening we pulled into a Walmart Supercenter in Reynoldsburg, OH for the night.

Last stretch. The boys finally gave in and passed out in the backseat.
We got home at 3pm. All is well, except the backyard disaster from the storm, of course.
